About Me

M

y name is Lorraine Horrell. I am a fully qualified counsellor/ psychotherapist.I work with two organisations in Wexford town, Its Good to Talk, where I have volunteered for the past two years and for the FDYS, where I have also volunteered for 18 months seeing adolescent clients. In its good to talk I see only adult clients. I enjoy seeing a mixture of both.  My qualifications are: Dip in counselling/psychotherapy.  BSc (HONS) in relational counselling/ psychotherapy. I am currently doing a MSc in Adolescent psychotherapy. I also have qualifications in Art and design and creative writing. My initial training was integrative which means I draw on a lot of different theories and styles. I have also done a years training in the Irish Gestalt Centre which was invaluable to my personal growth. For my MSc which is purely adolescent psychotherapy we use Gestalt theory to explain the adolescent development. I find this is a very helpful way to understand adolescents and especially their creative adjustments; eating disorders, drinking, self harming, etc... I work creatively with both adult and adolescents. Some clients would rather just talk and others have difficulty expressing their feelings, here we will explore ways to express those feelings. Sometimes through art, other times dreams and imagery can be very powerful and evocative. Some people write songs and poetry, expression of our feelings is so important and often underrated. I am committed to learning and to my own personal growth, I believe our clients are our greatest teachers.  I am fully accredited with IACP and I abide by their code of ethics.
